Taking Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh as case studies, it identifies factors that have contribute to the unfavourable relationship between copyright law and the affordable translation of scientific and technical books, such as colonisation; international copyright law; the trade interests of the developing country; and a lack of expertise and general lack of awareness surrounding copyright law in the developing world. The book examines whether current copyright laws adequately meet the needs of developing countries, or whether they place too much emphasis on the requirements of dominant trading partners such as the United States.
